New solar lighting to increase safety and community wellbeing

Woollahra Council has installed new low-level solar bollard lighting along 1.5 kilometres of the coastal cliff top walkway from Gap Park to Christison Park.

These lights will encourage recreational use of the pathway during evenings, leading to greater community wellbeing and public safety.

The waist-high lights have been spaced between 6-9 meters apart from each other, depending on terrain and shade in the area.

This project was funded by the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure,Transport, Cities and Regional Development.

    Installation of the new solar powered lighting is complete, perfectly timed for warm evening walks this spring and summer.

    The waist-high bollards extend along the coastal clifftop walkway for 1.5km between Gap Park and Christison Park, providing low-level lighting after sundown and allowing the community and visitors to safely take part in evening recreational activities.

    Work has started with the installation of the solar light bollards along the coastal walk way. Work started at the Gap Park end of the pathway. It is expected that lights will be fully installed by August, weather permitting.

    Woollahra Council and the Department of Infrastructure,Transport, Cities and Regional Development are working together to create the Coastal Walkways Upgrades project to address safety concerns along the clifftop coastal walk. The project will include the installation of lighting across the walkway to encourage people to use the area in the evening. This activation aims to increase passve survillence to the area.
