Why are we upgrading the reserve?

We know the reserve is a valued community space — a place to connect, relax, and enjoy the outdoors.

Woollahra Council is looking to refresh the area to create a more welcoming and enjoyable place for local residents.

These proposed upgrades aim to make it more comfortable for sitting and socialising, while creating more opportunities for informal children’s play.

The draft design

We've created a draft plan for Comber Reserve which features a range of elements.

New elements include:

  • new garden beds along the boundary of 34 Comber Street and along the street frontage
  • a new picnic setting and bench to replace the existing ones
  • additional brick paving
  • hopscotch ground markings
  • a concrete area at the rear of the reserve for chalk drawing and play
  • a raised brick garden edge that can also function as bench seating

Existing elements to be retained:

  • the gazebo/shade structure above the table
  • the two park lights located at the front and rear of the reserve
  • the existing iron palisade fence and gate
  • existing brick paving beneath the gazebo and surrounding park furniture
  • the garden bed and planting at the back of the reserve

Chalk drawing

There is limited space for adding play elements and play equipment or a handball court at the reserve. Our proposed design provides a space for children to draw with chalk, encouraging creativity and play. We have seen chalk drawing become popular in Moncur Reserve in Woollahra. Chalk is a non-toxic substance that washes off easily with water.

Next steps

After the public exhibition of the draft design, we will review all feedback and announce the final design in early 2026. Works to upgrade the reserve are expected to start in Autumn 2026 and take approximately two weeks, weather permitting. The reserve will be closed during the upgrade with limited access for residents of neighbouring properties.
