We want to make Woollahra a place where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their cultural background, gender or identity.

Council has prepared a draft Diversity Strategy, with the help of our local community. Read a summary of our community consultation below. Now we are seeking your feedback to help shape the final version of the Strategy. Have your say by Wednesday 26 November 2025.

Overview

The Strategy aims to create a more inclusive community and foster a greater sense of belonging for all residents.

What does this mean for you?

  • A community that celebrates our differences.
  • A community with a diversity of knowledge and ideas.
  • A stronger, more vibrant Woollahra for future generations.

The key objectives identified in the Strategy are:

1. Inclusion - We aim to ensure everyone in the Woollahra LGA feels safe, respected and able to access the services, spaces and opportunities they need to live well.

2. Participation - Council is committed to working collaboratively with the community to support more ways for people to be involved in civic life, community events, and local decision-making.

3. Inclusion - We proudly celebrate the many cultures, identities and experiences that make up our diverse community.

We heard from the community via a survey and the Social Cohesion Forum.

Our survey was open from 25 July to 22 August 2024 on Council's Your Say webpage. The survey was promoted via flyers, social media, and two community pop-ups held at Woollahra Library at Double Bay on 12 August and Lyne Park on 19 August 2024.

On Friday 13 June 2025 a Social Cohesion Forum facilitated by Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick councils and hosted collaboratively by the Mayors of each facilitating council: Mayor Sarah Swan; Mayor Will Nemesh; and Mayor Dylan Parker, brought together civic and spiritual leaders, community service providers, and local organisations to explore ways to strengthen belonging, safety, and inclusion across the Eastern Suburbs communities. Cred Consulting facilitated consultation at the event, where attendees provided ideas and feedback regarding social cohesion in the Eastern Beaches region.

Council also sought assistance from Cultural Perspectives, a leading research, communications and consulting agency with expertise in reaching culturally & linguistically diverse (CALD) and Indigenous audiences and delivering projects around sensitive social issues.
