The new Gap Park Tramway Pathway is now open!

6 September 2021

We are pleased to announce that construction of the new tramway pathway is complete and that it is now open for everyone to enjoy. Connecting the Military Road end park entry in the north to Old South Head Road in the south, it converts the historic tramway route through Gap Park into a more accessible path that provides a new and improved visitor experience.

The pathway, which measures two metres wide with a surface of crushed sandstone and sandstone block edging, takes visitors along the historic tram route, a bushland rock escarpment and an exotic rain forest gully.

A raised timber boardwalk has also been constructed over some prominent Fig tree roots near the southern end to protect them, and seating has been installed along the route for resting and taking in magnificent views of the Harbour Bridge and the tranquil surrounds of Gap Park. Interpretative signage is also currently being designed which will have reference to the natural environment and Aboriginal heritage.

Thank you for your participation during the consultation process for this project. Your feedback has assisted in the design and delivery of a fantastic asset for all visitors to this treasured slice of our green space.
