What is Plastic Free July?

    Plastic free July is an initiative that challenges us to go plastic free for one month.

    Through this challenge you can learn new ways of doing things without plastic which in turn reduces the amount plastic pollution we create. Then maybe you can challenge yourself to keep going, reducing plastic in your life for good!!

    Why does Council support Plastic Free July?

    Council supports Plastic Free July because we and everyone in our community has a role to play when it comes to reducing plastic.

    We want everyone to know how important it is to reduce and refuse plastic items as much as possible to protect our environment from harm.

    Every little action towards minimising plastic in our daily lives makes a big difference!!

    Why can't we just recycle all our plastic waste?

    We should definitely recycle as much as possible, but there is still a lot of plastic that does not get recycled and ends up in landfills and as pollution in our environment.

    The best thing to do is try and avoid plastic where possible in the first place. If you can't avoid it, see if you can re-use the plastic item and then recycle if there is the option to do so.


    How can I enter the "Choose to Refuse Plastic" artwork competition?

    Its easy! All you need to do is:

    1. Read the terms and conditions. This will give you all the information you need for your entry. You can find these in the document library on this page.

    2. Mark the closing date for the competition in your calendar.

    3. Create your artwork based on our theme "Choose to Refuse Plastic". The artwork can be done either by hand drawing or on digital media.

    4. Submit your artwork to Council by Friday 9 August (remember to add your name, school and contact phone number):
