An LEP or ‘local environmental plan’ is Council’s main legal document for controlling development and guiding planning decisions made by Council to ensure that growth and development occurs in a planned and coordinated manner consistent with Council and community expectations and needs.

An LEP contains land use zones which establish where residential, commercial, recreation and other uses can occur. It has development controls for buildings and land, including controls for height, floor space, subdivision and lot size. An LEP also provides protection for trees, heritage items, heritage conservation areas and environmentally sensitive areas.

An LEP is made by Council in consultation with the community, and approved by the Minister for Planning, according to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000.

An LEP is reviewed every 7 to 10 years to ensure that the LEP is forward looking and suitably addresses current and emerging planning issues.

The planning proposal affects the current land owner and may affect surrounding owners if they wish to carry out development in the vicinity of the proposed heritage items.

Written submissions may be lodged between Wednesday 29 June 2022 - Friday 12 August 2022. All submissions must be received before the exhibition closes at 4.30pm on Friday 5 August 2022.

Your input will help inform Council decision making and shape the future of Woollahra. All submissions received during public exhibition will be reviewed and reported to the Environmental Planning Committee and to a Council meeting.

A planning proposal is on exhibition to amend the Woollahra Local Environmental Plan 2014 (Woollahra LEP 2014). The objective of the planning proposal is to list 'Sunny Brae' at 40 Fitzwilliam Road, Vaucluse as a local heritage item in the Woollahra LEP 2014. 

The heritage listing will provide ongoing protection and recognition of the heritage significance of this site.
