Why does Council need a library strategy?

Libraries have evolved from book-borrowing into vibrant community and cultural hubs. We want to continue connecting people with ideas. Woollahra's five-year Library Strategic Plan will set the future direction of our programs and services.

How will the strategy be decided?

Our Strategic Plan will be decided on a number of factors. We will be listening to your ideas through a variety of engagement activities. We will also be looking at industry best practice, reviewing feedback received through our annual customer satisfaction surveys and looking at the future of technology.

What does Council hope to achieve through the consultation process?

Our goal is to remain a vital part of the Woollahra community by offering services and opportunities that our community wants and needs. We can only achieve this by listening to your ideas and aspirations for the library service.

How can I have my say?

You can share your ideas and aspirations for our future library services here on this page.

Council will be conducting further consultation in a variety of methods in the coming months, which may include a telephone survey or workshops etc. Please get in touch at records@woollahra.nsw.gov.au if you would like to participate further.

What happens to the comments I make?

Your ideas and aspirations are important to us. We will use your feedback to help develop our new five-year Library Strategic Plan, to make sure our future service reflects our community's needs.

We estimate the Library Strategic Plan will go to Council for approval in August 2019.

How many libraries does Woollahra have?

We have three libraries located in Double Bay, Paddington and Watsons Bay.

The former Local History Centre based in Sherbrooke Hall was integrated into the Woollahra Library at Double Bay in 2016. The combined service is known as Woollahra Libraries.

Is Paddington Library part of Woollahra Council?

Paddington Library operates from a City of Sydney building, the Paddington Town Hall. By agreement, Paddington Library operating costs are split 60/40 between Woollahra and City of Sydney Councils.

What services does Woollahra Libraries currently offer?

We offer a range of services and programs -- from borrowing print and e-books to 3D printing to book clubs. Visit Woollahra Libraries' website to find out what we have have to offer

How many people use Woollahra Libraries?

Woollahra Libraries have 32,162 members. That's 55 per cent of Woollahra Council residents.

Across the 3 libraries, Woollahra Libraries employs 35.89 full time equivalent staff, and is supported by 105 volunteers.

Will Council be opening a new library?

Our five-year strategic plan will focus on our existing service and how we can build on our success. Our newest library, Woollahra Library at Double Bay, opened in May 2016. So while we don't have plans at the moment to open a new bricks-and-mortar library, we are looking at creative ways to deliver our library services, like our home library service, to make sure you have a future library service that meets your needs.
