Update
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on our draft concept plans to upgrade two locations at Yarranabbe Park in Darling Point, the entrance at the south end and the paved area at the northern end.
We received feedback via our online survey, email and in-person at our pop-up sessions at the park, and we were pleased to hear that the vast majority of you are supportive of our upgrade plans. We've used your feedback to make some changes to the plans.
Find out more and view the final plans below.
Works are scheduled to start in late May 2026 and be completed by spring 2026.
We received 24 online submissions via Your Say Woollahra and 15 submissions via email.
We also received in-person feedback at two on-site community pop-ups held on 16 and 18 February 2026.
We received strong support from the community for the plans in general, particularly the new welcoming entry landscape and proposed planting palette for the garden beds.
We also received several general requests for landscaping improvements to Yarranabbe Park, including turf maintenance and irrigation.
Key themes from community feedback:
- Preference for new seating to be under shaded areas
- Requests to repair uneven turf areas
- Requests to fix or upgrade irrigation systems
- Requests for bins and dog water facilities
- Provision for emergency access
- Some community members were concerned the beige concrete colour in the concept plan was too light.
All community feedback was carefully reviewed, and some adjustments made. See "How community feedback shaped the final plan" for more information.
Based on community feedback we made the following changes:
- The plan for the south end now includes additional measures to minimise and avoid impacts on the site's heritage significance, including the foundations from the Anti-Submarine School Building circa.1938, such as a raised pathway to be constructed on top of imported soil as appraised by a qualified heritage specialist. These additions to the plan were made in consultation with RANSA.
- We have modified the curved bench seating in the draft plan for the northern end to be more comfortable by adding timber slats, a back rest and arm rests.
- The final plan for both the north and south ends have a slightly darker sandstone coloured concrete, in response to community feedback that the sandstone colour in the draft plan was too light and community feedback that the concrete colour should take inspiration from the natural sandstone colours of the sea wall and the Sydney sandstone on the harbour foreshore.
- In response to community feedback, the garden beds will have steel edging to help retain the new soil, mulch and plants.
- New garden beds will include flowering native plants that are salt and drought tolerant to increase local biodiversity in response to community feedback. The final planting palette has been endorsed by Council’s horticulturalist.
Additional points:
- We received a number of requests for a dog water bowl, and we are pleased to say that a dog water bowl was included in the draft plan for the northern end and remains in the final plan. We have also added a tap and dog water bowl to the plans for the southern end.
- We received a number of requests for a rubbish bins and we are pleased to say that rubbish bins were included in the draft plan and remain in the final plan.
- An accessible drinking fountain was included in the draft plan and remains in the final plan, relocated away form the from the bins to avoid unpleasant smells whilst drinking. This is designed to be accessible for all community members including wheeled device users.
- Based on feedback we will endeavour to place that any potential new seating in the park, beyond these plans, in the shady areas where possible.

Overview
We're upgrading the landscaping and pathways at the southern end of Yarranabbe Park in Darling Point near the Royal Australian Naval Sailing Association (RANSA) Clubhouse and also the northern end of the park. This will benefit local residents and visitors that make this public recreation area one of our most popular open spaces.
The draft plan for the southern end welcome entry to Yarranabbe Park near the RANSA Clubhouse proposes a new direct pedestrian link from the public footpath along New Beach Road into the park. This upgraded pathway will create a more inviting entry to the park and a clear and straight access route to the existing harbour-side walkway. The design also features new garden beds, seating areas, and additional rubbish bins to enhance amenity and support increased park use.
The draft plan for the northern end of Yarranabbe Park focuses on expanding and improving the northern end. The proposal includes a larger open space paved area, new seating, garden beds, drinking bubblers, and a dedicated dog-water bowl. This upgraded area will offer a comfortable place for visitors to sit, rest, and enjoy the iconic views across the harbour toward the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Why are we upgrading these sections of the park?
Yarranabbe Park in Darling Point is one of our most popular and well-loved parks. We know this park is a valued community spaces — place for residents and visitors to connect, relax, and to be active.
Woollahra Council is looking to refresh two sections of the park; the southern entry near the RANSA Clubhouse and the northern end; to create a more welcoming and enjoyable place for the community.
In the past we developed a Masterplan and Plan of Management for Yarranabbe Park, adopted in 2012, which was superseded by the Generic Crown Lands Plan of Management 2023, as Yarranabbe Park is Crown Land.
These plans were developed with the intention of respecting the history of the site while balancing the needs of the community and offer public amenity and access to one of the most significant areas of public foreshore in our local area.
Yarranabbe Park features large open green space, a children’s playground, a fitness station and pathways used for walking, jogging and other activities The park is used for a variety recreational activities and provides our local community and visitors to the area with a valuable open space with views of the harbour.
These proposed upgrades aim to make our outdoor spaces more accessible and enjoyable for a wide variety of uses.
