Plumb Reserve playground is getting a makeover!

To make this popular playspace at Fletcher Street, Woollahra more accessible, inclusive, modern and engaging for children, Council is proposing to redesign and rebuild the entire playground in 2021.

Council has allocated funding of $250,000 for new play equipment and landscaping plus $100,000 for replacement of the softfall at Plumb Reserve playground in its 2020-21 budget. Council has also applied for $120,000 of grant funding, which became available under the NSW Government. Everyone Can Play grant program. This program offers support to councils to build inclusive playspaces that people of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds can play in.

If we are successful with this grant application the money will be added to the project budget and we we will be able to make the new playground even bigger and better and more inclusive for everyone. To support our application we engaged specialist playspace landscape architects to create a concept design for the new playground that meets the program guidelines. We're excited to share these plans with the community and would love to know what you think.

Features of the proposed concept plan include:

  • Rubber softfall flooring for accessibility and safety
  • Social, group, solo and nature play elements
  • New shade sails
  • Accessible pathways
  • Central gathering space
  • New seating
  • New drinking fountain
  • New garden beds
  • Accessible parking and drop-off zone

Council expects to receive a decision on the outcome of its grant application in late January or early February 2021. This will influence the size and scope of the final design along with the community's feedback. The concept plan that we are asking you to comment on has been prepared under the assumption that Council will be awarded the grant funding. If we do not receive the grant funding we will need to change the design and delete some of the play equipment.

You can now view the concept plan by clicking on the link in the Document Library on the right of this page. If the plan doesn't open automatically check your downloads folder and you should find it there.

Once you've taken a look, share your feedback on the new plans by taking our survey (see in survey tab), which is open until Wednesday 10 February 2021.

We'll also be popping up in person at Plumb Reserve on Wednesday 3 February and Friday 5 February 2021 from 3.00 - 5.30pm to talk to the community about this exciting project and answer any questions.

We know our community cares about the future of Plumb Reserve and we invite you to get involved with this important upgrade.
