Council has exhibited a planning proposal to amend the Woollahra Local Environmental Plan 2014 (Woollahra LEP 2014).
The objective of the planning proposal is to permit advertising on bus shelters as exempt development whilst ensuring that the signage is compatible with the desired visual character of the Woollahra LGA. Currently advertising on bus shelters is not permissible.
The planning proposal seeks to achieve this by amending Schedule 2: Exempt development of the Woollahra LEP 2014 to insert a provision for advertising on bus shelters. Whilst the planning proposal applies to the whole Woollahra LGA, bus shelter advertising will not be permitted:
- On heritage items,
- On heritage style bus shelters,
- In a heritage conservation area (excluding New South Head Road, Ocean Street, Old South Head Road and Oxford Street).
The Council has been authorised by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to make the LEP under section 3.36 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
