We're seeking your views about the St George Church at 90-92 Newcastle Street, Rose Bay. This Greek Orthodox Church is being proposed for local heritage listing, and we want to hear your thoughts on this proposal, and what elements of the building are important to you.
The Heritage Study: Places of Worship, Woollahra LGA report prepared by Council in 2022 found that the church meets the criteria for local heritage listing based on its historical and aesthetic qualities, its association with Greek migrant communities in the area following WW1, as well as being a rare example of a Greek Orthodox church that is also a war memorial.
So that we can better understand the site’s significance, we would like to hear what you believe is important about the church. This may be information about the site, the building, building elements, and the icons and memorabilia inside the church. We would also like to hear about special occasions or community events that you have attended at the church.
