Local Heritage Listing
At its meeting of 29 September 2020, Council approved the planning proposal to list Cooper Park, Bellevue Hill (excluding Cooper Park North) as a local heritage item in Schedule 5 of the Woollahra Local Environmental Plan 2014 (Woollahra LEP 2014). Read the full Council resolution here.
Following Council's resolution, the amendment was notified by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on 18 December 2020. Woollahra LEP 2014 (Amendment No. 15) came into force on the day it was notified. You can view the amendment on the NSW Legislation website.
The amendment to Woollahra LEP 2014 involves listing Cooper Park (excluding Cooper Park North) as a local heritage item. Heritage listing will provide ongoing protection and recognition of the heritage significance of the park, its built, landscape and natural elements.
A detailed description of the heritage significance of the item is included in the supporting documents to the planning proposal, particularly the Heritage Significance Assessment by Betteridge Heritage.

The public exhibition was open from Monday 29 June 2020 - Friday 14 August 2020.

State Heritage Listing
On 29 September 2020, Council endorsed sending a nomination to Heritage NSW to include Cooper Park on the State Heritage Register (SHR).
On 1 December 2020, the SHR Committee considered the nomination. A copy of the minutes from that meeting can be viewed here.
Subsequent to this meeting, on 15 December 2020, Council received communication from Heritage NSW informing that the SHR Committee has resolved that Cooper Park is likely to meet the threshold for State heritage significance. However, it is not a current priority for SHR listing and will not be progressed. We will keep you up to date if the nomination is progressed in the future.
The State Heritage Register identifies items having particular importance to the people of New South Wales which meet the NSW Heritage Council's assessment criteria.
Items listed on the State Heritage Register are managed in accordance with the Heritage Act 1977 by the Heritage Council of NSW.
